Exploring rock families
Lesson: Science
Starburst rocks!
This half term we have been learning all about rocks. We found out that there are three main types of rocks: Sedimentary, Metamorphic and Igneous. To make things a little more interesting and to help with our understanding of how they are formed, we used starburst sweets.
We learnt that Sedimentary rocks are formed collection of sediments having pressure applied. The next stage was to explore using the heat and more squeezing (pressure) to see how Metaorphic rocks are formed by being placed under pressure and heat and finally Igneous rocks are formed becoming softer and then allowing them to cool. This is similar to the crystalline structure of Igneous rock.
We had a fabulous time doing this activity.
