Curriculum Overviews

At Gainsborough Primary and Nursery School we believe that the curriculum is a powerful tool that promotes a lifelong love of learning and a willingness to explore. It includes not only the formal requirements of the National Curriculum but it is enriched by our strong ethos based on respect for ourselves and others. We aim to teach children how to grow into positive, responsible people who can work and co-operate with others while developing knowledge and skills so that they can achieve their full potential. Our children will have the opportunity to be creative, to be physically active and to be academically challenged.

Our curriculum is designed to ignite the imagination of the pupils. Most plans originate from a stimulus that is child-orientated such as a text, a period of history or a theme that the children are currently engaged with. We plan our curriculum to ensure that we meet the requirements of the National Curriculum and the Early Years Curriculum by ensuring that:

 1) Long term plans are developed collaboratively between subject leaders and year group colleagues to ensure coverage for the academic year;

2)  Medium term plans are written creatively and collaboratively, drawing on ideas from CPD opportunities;

 3) Short term plans are used to specifically tailor learning for all abilities

Each subject has a bespoke yearly overview which you can click on below. If you have any queries regarding our curriculum or would like to know how to support your child, then please do not hesitate to contact the school.
